Purchase an NMJL (National Mah Jongg League) Card. Most American Mah Jongg players use the NMJL card, and everyone at the table must be playing from the same card.

Practice Online. If you don't yet have a regular group, playing against computer opponents is one of the fastest ways to learn the NMJL card, build confidence, and improve your game. However, you won't learn things like the Charleston and how to setup or deal playing online. We also recommend our Open Tables events; for only $8, you can play in our club and one of us is there to answer questions.

Consider purchasing your own Mah Jongg set so you can practice building hands at home between classes. Affordable starter sets are available, and many boutique suppliers offer beautiful, high-quality tiles, racks, and accessories.
Buy an NMJL Card
You will need a NMJL Card to play after taking our Intro class. I do not recommend googling it or searching Amazon, as there are many fake cards for sale. I recommend one of three options for buying cards.
01 Buy from Clover Club
Only sold in person; cash only. If you are coming in soon anyway, bring $15 to get your card the same day. Ask about card accessories.
Typically takes 2-3 weeks to receive. Gets you on their annual Rules Update mailing list.
You must buy in packs of 4. Typically takes 1 week to receive.
Practice Online
I have personally used www.myjongg.net many times and enjoy it. You can play up to 4 games/day without paying, or you can buy their membership to play more often.
